Just south of Fort DeSoto and at the mouth of Tampa Bay is the island of Egmont Key.

This State Park area contains the ruins of the Spanish-American War era Fort Dade as well as opportunities for snorkeling, shelling, and bird watching.

It's reachable only by boat. There is a ferry from Fort DeSoto that leaves at 10:00 AM and 11:00 AM and returns at 2:00 PM and 3:00 PM for $20. (Schedule is limited September-February). See Hubbards Marina for current ferry information.
